Wellow
(Cup) |
Away |
Won |
| The
under 13s started the season with a comfortable cup win
against Wellow by 56 runs. Put into bat, Farley scored
an impressive 149/5 in their 20 overs. Sam A retired on
32no finishing his innings with a 6 which hit the pavilion
(more of a shed really) roof. Will Wade hit a cultured
30 before also retiring and Tom Kuhle scored a breezy
32no ending the innings with some fine hitting. A good
batting performance was supported by all the bowlers and
in the field. After an early run out, Miles Kantolinna
(3/16) and Will Wade (4/15) took the wickets but 8 boys
bowled all with a great deal of accuracy. Wellow finished
on 93/8. |

Hyde |
Home |
Won |
| The
under 13s continued their early season good form against
Wellow. Having won the toss, captain Adam Thompson opted
to bat first. A steady Hyde bowling attack did not give
Farley the opportunities to score as freely as they would
have liked. The foundation of the innings came from Sam
A (32 retired) and Will Wade (28no) as Farley made 116
for 4 from their 18 overs. Hyde batted in worsening light
but their openers started comfortably enough putting on
42 for the first wicket. A fine catch behind the stumps
by Angus started what turned out to be a collapse from
42/0 to 44/5. Sam A took 4/2 and James Wade playing his
first game for Farley bowled a double wicket maiden finishing
with 2/4. Hyde’s innings ended on 84 all out. |

Calmore
(Cup) |
Away |
Lost |
| Farley’s
cup run came to an end at Calmore with a four wicket defeat.
Bowling first on a sticky wicket Calmore opened with a
leg spinner who could have had Sam A caught at the boundary
off the first ball of the match. The chance was spilled
and Sam added another retired score (30). Ben Draper (13)
was the next highest scorer before he was unluckily run
out. Farley’s score of 82/8 looked twenty runs short of
being competitive. An early wicket as Adam had one of
the openers caught behind gave Farley some hope, but a
second wicket stand of 41 was crucial especially as the
runs came quickly. The spinners began to exert some control
and Sam A (2/14), Will Wade (1/18) and Miles (1/6) gave
the 13s hope with a steady stream of wickets. However
Calmore just about had enough momentum to get over the
line in the 19th over scoring 84/6. Special thanks go
to Edward Wade who turned out at the very last moment
and gave his all in the field. |

Paultons |
Away |
Lost |
Half
term saw a depleted U13s side travel to Paultons for what turned out
to be a match to forget. Batting first, poor shot selection soon saw
Farley in trouble at 22-3. Only Ben Draper (31 retired), Sam B
(18no) and Tom Kuhle (14) put up much resistance and Farley finished
on a below par 89. Despite
an early wicket for Sam B, two Paultons players reitired and at 70-1
after 8 games it looked an early return home. But firstly Sam A took
a wicket then Adam (3-21) bowled 3 Paultons batsmen in 8 balls with
the score on 87. However the game was beyond saving as Farley
succumbed to a 5 wicket defeat. Thanks go to Edward Wade (again!)
and Ellie Thompson who both turned out at the last moment and gave
their all. |

Redlynch & Hale |
Home |
Won |
The
U13 batsmen returned to scoring ways against Redlynch as they scored
146 in just 16 overs. Sam A (30 retired in 18 balls), Tom Kuhle (23
in 15 balls) and Adam (30no in 21 balls including a towering six)
took Farley to this total for the loss of 5 wickets. It
was never a target that was going to be threatened so the bowling was
shared around. Sam B (1-8) and Will Hooper (1-14) opened the attack
and soon had Redlynch pegged back at 16-2. James Wade (0-11), Tom
Kuhle (2-10) and Oscar Slark (0-3) kept things tight as Redlynch
decided to play out time scoring just 54-4 in 16 overs. Farley won
by 92 runs. |
| June
23rd | Winterslow | Home | Won |
|
For
the second year running the local derby against Winterslow proved a
one-sided affair as Farley won by 47 runs. Sam A and William opened
and both retired at better than run a ball 31’s. Progress slowed
after that but Ben Draper (15no) marshaled the innings well with
Miles contributing a useful 11no as Farley posted a total of 113 for
2 in their 18 overs. In
reply accurate Farley bowling kept the run rate down and by the
halfway point Winterslow were 29 for 0 and not threatening the Farley
total. The introduction of spin saw Farley’s hold on the game
tighten as wickets also began to fall. Sam A took 3-8 and Miles 2-14
as the Winterslow innings finished on 66 for 7 from 18 overs with the
other two wickets coming from run outs. |
| June 30th | Bramshaw | Away | Won |
Farley’s
approach of win the toss, bat first and post a high total saw them to a
third successive league table and pushing for the league title.
Sam A (30), Ben (31) and William (30) all retired and Angus made a
useful 13 no as Farley scored 137 for 3. Farley’s
opening bowlers struggled to make a breakthrough but were accurate such
that Bramshaw were always comfortably below the required run
rate. Miles (1-15) finally broke the opening partnership, then
debutant Tom Stagg (2-13) took 2 wickets in one over and the game was
effectively finished. James Wade took 2-7 to continue his useful
contributions over the season. Bramshaw’s innings closed on 86
for 6 for a 51 run win for Farley. |
